So this is me (in the center - it was hot, my hair was pinned back, not cut like a llama). I am Anna Maria Sophia Giancarlo. Kidding! Christy Phelps. Pleased to meet you.
I made this collage for my husband from pictures he took when we were in Paris - he's a good photographer, no? Jenn (Girly Designz) thought this would be a good place to put it. By way of introduction, here's who I am: a wife, a mom and a grandma, a mother-in-law, an auntie, a sister and a friend. I think that's it. Oh - and a rescuer of dogs with issues. Computer geek by profession, artisan by nature.
(Me in Jen Geldard's class. A dream come true!)
Chapter two - The Mating Habits of Chesapeake Bay Oysters: I feel like I'm writing a paper that's due next week. Think, think, hink. What could you want to know on this "About" page? I've been making things since I 've known myself. I have worked with textiles, pottery, wood, leather, metals and glass. No matter what I make, while making it I pray for the person who will receive it, that they will find truth, love, joy, wisdom and peace in this life.. Whether you believe in prayer or mojo or positive energy, know that my heart and desire for your wellbeing is attached to every thing that comes from my studio!
For a chunk of time I raised goats, lambs, chickens, ducks and rabbits in my hippie days in Upstate NY (I know I capitalized Upstate, you have to.) - Back then I made all our breads, grew & canned all our fruits, vegetables, juices, made soap and hung the wash out to dry - in a long skirt & workboots with 3 active boys running around. I even made cheese and butter, but let's not go there.
Then I became an office droid, learning computer graphics, which is what I now do freelance (yay - I like the boss) for a profession (or "work work" as it is called). Flash forward, and add a fabulously brilliant, beautiful and fun daughter (Tribe scholar!) to the mix and an outstanding athlete graduating from college this year. Now we live in suburbia in the commonwealth of Virginia and I am loving it!!!
So at this point in time, aside from switching over to a Mac computer for my graphics, I'm working with metals - gold, copper and silver and all kinds of glass. I have a big, wonderful studio with lots of light and a real good feeling about it. My friend, Dayle would say it has a good aura. You get the gist. I am surrounded with people and things that inspire me, like this picture. I wish I had a better scan of it, but listen to this - I contacted the photographer (Frank W. Ockenfels 3)'s agent to get permission to share this photo and it was graciously given to me! (How cool is that) He loves this photo, too. In my opinion, some of his work captures moments and nuances that many photographers never even see to shoot. That is what I wish I could do in different mediums here for you.
